AUTOMOTIVE SOLAR FILM

We have done comparison with international brands only. For solar film brands which are not stated here, we personally feel that it is not an international brand hence the readings might not be accurate.

From this chart, we classify them accordingly to similar Visible Light Transmission (VLT) for a fair comparison.

This chart will help you to make the right choice in the installation of your car’s solar film.

We only include Ultraviolet Rejetion, Total Solar Energy Rejected, Infrared Rejection,Visible Light Transmission as well as brand and model for easier view and understanding.

*All data can be taken from their respective website
*The readings of ULTIMEA Solar Films is based on third party testing devices

LTA-COMPLIANT Films Comparison
How do I tell which film is the best in the market?

The most important reading that you should take note in the comparison of the solar film is the total solar energy rejected (TSER). The next important reading is the visible light transmission (VLT) as LTA regulates the amount of light transmitted. It will be 70% on the front 3 windows and 25% for the rest of the windows. The readings will be taken on the windows, not on the film itself. Hence it is important to find out the actual reading on your windows. The light transmitted varies depending from car to car. The lowest reading that can be on a 3mm clear glass would be 80% in order to pass the LTA inspection. If the reading on the clear glass is lower than 80%, there will be a risk of failing LTA inspection.

Why us Total Solar Energy Rejected (TSER) is more important then Infrared Rejection?

In Singapore, many installers would market their film as 99% infrared rejection as the higher the infrared rejection, the higher the heat rejection. But however, this is totally false!

The whole solar spectrum which is the amount of heat you will be receiving is 53% full infrared, 44% visible light transmission and 3% of ultraviolet rays. Total Solar Energy Rejected (TSER) measures the most accurate heat rejection as the combined reading consist of the full infrared rejection, visible light transmission and ultraviolet rejection. This reading would be the actual heat rejection.

*Remember, 99% infrared rejection is not equal to 99% heat rejection as it won’t be reducing 99 degrees when the temperature is 100 degrees*

How is infrared rejection being marketed to mislead customers

Although the higher the infrared rejection, the better the heat rejection would be as infrared still contributes the most in the TSER readings. But however, there are many infrared wavelengths available to measure. It will not be accurate as the film manufacturer would only show you the readings when their film is performing at the best. For example, 3M’s CR90 has an infrared rejection of 90%. But however, it is only measured at 900nm to 1000nm wavelength. It will not tell you how good the actual performance would be. The most accurate reading would be at full infrared rejection wavelength.

Why other film installers have better ratings?

There are many reasons for it and here is just a few reasons.
1. They are being dishonest. They would not show you the ratings when you went to the appointment.
2. The readings are taken on the car windows after the film is installed. The better the car windows factory tint, the higher the performance would be. Hence the best way would be to test it on a 3mm clear glass.
3. Inaccurate measurement methods. They only use the meter which gives you the best results rather than being transparent.
4. The film is not LTA compliant. The lower the visible light transmission is, the higher the heat rejection would be.

Hence, we urge customers to choose their solar film installer wisely.
